TAGUA JEWELRY
Tagua nuts – seeds of the tagua palm tree found in tropical Pacific coastal areas from Colombia to Ecuador – are natural renewable resources; hand-harvested from areas where the trees easily propagate themselves and the tagua habitat is unharmed. Sometimes call “green ivory”, “eco-ivory” or “vegetable ivory” because of their beauty, natural color, and resiliency, use of the tagua helps save the lives of elephants and protect delicate rain forests.
Nuts are sculpted, dyed, polished and fashioned into beautiful jewelry by artisans who live in the area. Stunning tagua beads are often strung with other indigenous seeds such as Amazonian acai and tropical camajuro to create interesting and beautiful pieces of jewelry.
